Standard British Vowels
I present here the simplest system that allows native pronunciation.
Standard British
vowels fall into two groups:
•
the 6 short (or lax) vowels
• the 11 long (or tense) vowels, which
fall into three sub-groups:
•
the 4 yod-vowels
•
the 3 w-vowels
•
the 4 r-vowels (or double vowels)
